Essential Cleaning Areas in the School Bus

School buses have always been seen as the safest transport option for schools. As such, in a post-COVID-19 world, there is a need for a more responsible and aggressive approach to cleaning to maintain a safe bus environment for students and drivers alike. Cleaning and disinfecting are vital in preventing infectious diseases in schools. Cleaning up school buses benefits both managers' and students' health. In a post-pandemic era, it is essential to invest time and funds to ensure buses are regularly cleaned and disinfected. This article highlights three areas in the school bus which must be frequently cleaned and disinfected.

1.     Seat belts and windowsills

To maintain optimum bus cleaning and commercial disinfection, seat belts and windowsills must be cleaned as often as possible. Most seat belts can be washed with mild detergent and water but it is advisable to avoid disinfecting them. While wipes and bleach work great for most surfaces, using a disinfectant chemical on a car seat harness or seat belt can damage the webbing, making the car seat or seat belt fail in the event of a crash.

2.     Air filters

The use of HVAC systems on school buses should be minimized to stop the spread of Covid 19; nevertheless, if they must be used because of the weather, make sure to clean the vents thoroughly.  Dust can be removed from the vents by wiping them with a moist cloth, and disinfectants can be sprayed on them to make them safe for use. If there is a heater or air conditioner on the school bus, clean the vents with care. Spray the disinfectant after using a moist cloth to remove the dust from the vents. It is highly recommended to change air filters according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

3.     Floors

When a bus's floor is being cleaned, dust and other impurities on the floor frequently get airborne and drop on neighboring surfaces. Conventional janitorial knowledge always suggests floor cleaning be done last. As such, ending the cleaning process on the floor simply makes it easier to clean or eliminate contaminants from the surfaces and the entire bus. Vacuuming is highly advised instead of using mops to clean the bus floor because mops can collect contaminants and distribute them. After the flooring has been cleaned, the remaining interior of the bus needs to be dusted and cleaned, including the seats, walls, doors, and windows.
